This was actually an assignment for my Web Media Design class (which I highly recommend to any fellow computer-addicts), and it basically told us to depict our view of Baker. Not sure of which angle I wanted to take on this, I thought I would add basic elements and concepts of what I have experienced thus far.

The picture of me crossing the little pond reflects the paths I've had to cross and courses I've had to take as a college student. Sure there's a bridge right behind me that will get me to the other side in half the time, but the adventurous side of me chooses the rocky road that might have more of a risk while crossing, but it's also a shorter distance.

The picture where I'm sitting on the bench nearby the small pond is conveying the fact that you never know what to expect. Expect the unexpected; but also enjoy the surprises as they come.

The horse-back riding picture in the background is pretty self-explanatory. Those that know me, know that I am deathly afraid of any and all things that are not of the human specie. Why? I have my reasons, lol. Anywho, I set aside my fear to try something new and in college, you sometimes have to put your fear behind you to accomplish something that can turn out to be rewarding in the end. That's my basketball coach by the way, helping me mount that ferocious creature, ha.

My Only February Post & Personal Update

So to my avid blogspot followers, I apologize for my dormancy and lack of effort with trying to keep up with this thing. I've had this blog for about a year and a half, and I've said over and over again, no matter how busy I get, I will still keep you all posted with my randomness, thoughts, and life. Well, Gloria.. you FAIL!

So this is my redemption post as I will try to get 2-3 posts up a week. Managing another blog for my university (www.bakerubloggers.wordpress.com) is hard enough, so bear with me. As for basketball, we are officially hosting the 1st round of playoffs vs. Avila (the team we lost to at the buzzer of playoffs last year) and our sweet revenge couldn't have been staged any better. I'm pretty pumped. I'll definitely let you all know how that turns out.

As for everything else in my life.. it's pretty much made. Ha, jk.. but God has really been good to me. I can't thank Him enough, and I'm so grateful for the opportunities and people He's put in my life to get me to where I am today.

Oh yeah, and my mom is coming to visit on Thursday! Yeeeeeeeeaaaah BUDDY! Haha, this will be interesting ;)

This picture is actually very old. Like extremely old. I want to say about 2-3 years ago, and quite frankly, I'm not too sure why I decided to pull this one up to depict this post... but I did. I feel like my world is spinning and I don't have time to stop and smell the roses, appreciate Mother Nature, and take a deep breath anymore. I have a huge decision to make pretty soon and I decided to whip out the old pen & paper and start documenting my thoughts again. I've always had a strong vibe with written expression whether it be poetry or journaling - it was something that made me more in tune with my inner self. But I always somehow seemed to drop one of my only good habits, and now I'm striving to start it again. For good. For as long as I can. For...ever (I hope). If it's not too personal, I'll post some of my journal entries on here. As candid and unedited as possible. But for now, it's just me, my pen, and paper.

Spring Semester

You know how things are always done better the second time around? Whether that is painting a picture or running a mile — the second time around always trumps the first.

Well, I feel like school can be the same way, as it is divided into two semesters. Fall semester is like your preparation and you’re more prone to making lackadaisical mistakes than opposed to now, because at the time, you are just coming back from a relaxed summer vacation. In this case, you’re coming from a 2-3 week break (if even that) where you still have some of that school knack in you. During the summer, especially if you are far from college like me (Arizona), you might even start to miss the people from school, so you get anxious as well to start school up again and reunite with your peers that helped ease your rollercoasting college days.. until of course, the reality of 10 page papers and 3 hour exams comes into play.

On another note, it’s easier to do something when there is a short-term reward in the end — that being summer. In the fall, you know you still have another semester to knock out before the ultimate vacation.

At any rate, spring semester officially begins tomorrow, Wednesday, January 27, 2010, and I feel unprepared for some reason. Yes I have my schedule, checked my alerts, holds, and any other hindrances that constantly appear on the student portal, and it seems that I have everything set, yet I still don’t feel ready. Thankfully the first week is a short one and I can use the weekend to fully recuperate and mentally prepare myself for another long 20 weeks or so.. or at least ’til spring break.

I first seen this on The Best Damn Sport Show's infamous countdowns for top Sports Bloopers and this ranked as #1 (go figure). I couldn't stop laughing and immediately took to the internet so I could watch this horrific scene over and over. I honestly couldn't imagine what was going through his head after the 50th screw up. Haha, he literally messed up EVERY single highlight. I was *DEAD* at the basketball highlights though! "REGGIE MILLER LOOKS GOOD!" Lol. Anywho, just enjoy and lemme know your thoughts! Well, technically it's not really a website... or social networking... I don't think. Actually, I'm not sure. All I know is that it took about 60 seconds to create, as advertised, and how could you turn that down right? Lol.. Playing the Race Card

Oh the infamous "race card" - the card that all black people seem to pull out when all else fails. The card that supposedly applies to any and all situations when you feel the slightest sense of unfairness or inequality. As funny as this is, I can't help but resort to its deeper meaning. As an African-American, are you guilty of assuming that everything in life is a result of racial profiling and stereotypes? You didn't get that job at Foot Locker? It's 'cause you're black. Didn't get the biggest scoop possible at the Chinese restaurant? It's 'cause you're black. Got bad credit? It's 'cause you're black -- no really! Lol, jk.. but in all seriousness, does the race card play out in your everyday thought processes when things don't go your way? Think about it.

The Secret Life of the American Teenager

I don't know how familiar you guys are with this show, but I remember hearing about it a while ago, watched a couple episodes when I was at a friend's house because she loved the show, but never really kept up with it since. Well by chance one morning, I happen to turn to channel 21 (abc family) thinking that it was TBN (the Christian channel) because that's the channel it is back home, and I forgot I was in Kansas for a second. Anywho, this show is on and I instantly remember how suspenseful it was. The next thing you know, 14 hours go by and I'm still watching this show. Luckily, this day-long marathon they had, caught me up on everything I've missed right before the season premiere. If you've never heard of this show, or are already a fan - tune in Monday at 8/7c on abcfamily. You'll be glad you did, I promise!

I was balling; but not on the court..

So today was the first time I cried in a long time -- I need to never wait that long before I shed some tears again. People cast such a negative light on crying too, as if all forms of it are associated with depression, tragedy, and all things emo -- which isn't the case at all. Sometimes it's good to let out all those emotions you've been holding in.. you release so much tension through the form of tears -- whether the situation is happy or sad, you can't deny the feeling you get afterward. Relief doesn't begin to describe how I felt after my "moment" today. And this scripture was like icing on the cake...

HELL to the NO! Funny how white people tan and black people bleach their skin, as if there's this median tone we're all trying to reach. As if being on either extreme of the spectrum is so bad. As if skin tone was still the determining factor in a person's success? But my goodness, what is this madness going on here? I have so many questions, but so little answers! Did he inherit Michael Jackson's cosmetics? Does he classify himself as white? Does this mean he now has good credit? (kidding.. ) But in all seriousness, you don't get like this overnight, why didn't his family/close friends stop him while it got out of hand? This is obviously an addiction, because he stated there was no medical inclination to this insanity. I guess the only other direction you can go after a very masculine beatdown on your ex-girlfriend is to feminize your next album cover with pants tighter than apple bottoms and the stance of a high-end top model? With Facebook becoming the new crack and e-mail of the decade, you're bound to come across people from your past and present, whether they be family members, ex-boyfriends, ex-bff's, or high school enemies. It's just inevitable. And with the new facebook now suggesting who you should be "friends" with, it doesn't make concealing your identity any easier. Not to mention the annoying "write on her wall" or "poke him" suggestions right below.. uggh, annoying! Anywho, why do people feel obligated to add/deny every request that comes to them? Maybe I need some time to evaluate whether it's worth going through all my photo albums and adding you to the "DO NOT SHOW" list, and whether I feel like censoring my thoughts for your sake. Mmmm, nah! So I neither confirm/deny the request.. I just let it pend and sit there. I wish I would've thought of this earlier, I'd probably have around 70 or somethin. He. Is. Back. If you thought the Drought series (especially the 3rd) was the peak of Wayne's flow, guess again. I am almost convinced that this man really is an alien from Mars. Lyrically, he's on a whole nother level of jargon and he surely doesn't disappoint with the much anticipated release of No Ceilings with featured tracks like Ice Cream Paint Job, Run This Town, and I Gotta Feeling just to name a few. He was smart about his timing too, cuz Lord knows he wouldn't have got as much hype around the release of surfaced tracks from Drake's So Far Gone mixtape. While the world was busy riding Drake's nuts, Wayne was in the studio 'workin up a master plan' and giving Drizzy just enough shine to enlighten our ears for the time being, until he was done with his next concoction. It's Official.. Season is Finally Here!

Okay, maybe not regular season quite yet.. but it aint official til ya picture is on the net ;-) Haha. Same number, different player. First regular season game November 6th -- gosh this season should be a fun ride. For those who don't know me too well.. I play the 3-4 position at Baker University in Kansas. I started half the season my freshman year (last year) then caught pneumonia in January (probably from all that dang snow that my Phoenix-stayin ass wasn't used to!) Lol.. Anywho, after recovering, I never really was the same player after that. I finished the season as a 6th man.. averaging just under 6 points a game (5.90) and 5 rebounds a game (4.93). I also led the team in steals and my biggest regret was not always putting forth 100% when I was out there [on the court]. There were days, and my coach could see right through me, where I would just go through the motions. And that's what happens when you're surrounded with girls that don't have chemistry off court, which is just as vital as having it on the court.

But this year around, we've got a bigger, better, stronger, and more diverse group, and already I'm having a ball with these girls [pun intended]. The assistant coach has already talked to me about having a starting role this year and what I have to do to maintain it, and I'm just ready. More excited for the team as a whole to start winning games than I am for myself to be putting up numbers. Although hustle and effort don't make the stat book, basketball goes way beyond the numbers.

My New Macbook + Personal Update

So... it's been a little minute since I posted last; my apologies, but I've been a lil, what's the word? ohh.. money-happy lately and let's just say my two most expensive ventures have been this lovely macbook along with a custom-made cover and a 32 gb ipod touch! (My 8 gb just wasn't cuttin it anymore). Now before you guys start the backlash, I got the macbook for $400 (dont worry about how - and yes it's brand new) and the iTouch for $299. Now that is a $1400 investment that I got all for under $700. I'm sorry yall, but my refund check was just sitting there waiting to be spent. I've worked so hard this summer and I've evolved so much as a person, I felt it necessary to finally do something for myself and reward my improving lifestyle. Not to say I'm anywhere near perfect, but I don't drink, I don't smoke, I've turned to the celibate lifestyle, and I'm renewing my faith and relationship with God. I just feel so whole and at peace with life right now that I can't help but to splurge a lil bit. So the question isn't where I've been.. it's where I'm going.. and that's up and away towards succes.. my destiny awaits.

Don't say the Lord's name in vain when things have turned sour, because just as he put you through the hardships, he will bring you out of it. How can you be made stronger in his eyes without going through a little adversity? You want muscles of faith? Then you cant keep benching those puny 5 lb weights anymore. Take on some real work and strengthen your relationship with Him.

Whether or not his muscles depicted in the picture are overemphasized through photoshop and visual tweaks or not, I could care less. Women wear make-up, let men have their exaggerated triceps dammit! Lol

As for his highly anticipated album "Ready" I have yet to give it a spin (although I guarantee I've already downloaded about 7 of the songs on there from previous leaks). I am, however, hearing mixed reviews about it, and how his mixtape superseded the success his album was said to have. Anticipation is still my sh*t though!

As you all may have heard by now.. his death is now being ruled a homicide with high levels of Acute Propofol intoxication given to him by personal doctor, Dr. Conrad Murray, who on top of that waited 81 whole minutes after Michael stopped breathing before calling 911. Autopsy's are a female dog, they will expose everything! It's the unthinkable.. the unimaginable.. the unwitnessable for LeBron James to get traded to the New York Knicks when his contract expires in 2010. As of yet, there are no facts or deals set in stone, but in recent interviews, LeBron keeps hinting how he will exercise his options and be open to what is out there (aka the New York Knicks); while claiming Cleveland nonetheless, will always be his home "no matter where his profession takes him" smh.. ~~sell out~~. If you're a Cavalier fan, you're probably outraged.. if you're a Knickerbocker fan, you're pissin urinations of joy all over the ground as I speak. Whichever category you may fall in, I advise you to keep the trash-talkin and mind-readin to a minimal, because I guarantee you this is all just a way of publicly displaying the power he bestows in the Cavalier's GM and their annual financial quota. At the end of the day, the New York fans get their hearts broken and go back to bandwagon-hoppin on other teams (i.e Celtics, Lakers), the Cavaliers staff raise his salary by a couple more billion dollars *side eye*, and Shaq will end up on another team, yet again. Do you get where I'm going here? It's all hype and media. No facts, no logic, no sense. Just money and egos to be satisfied and met by the end of the day.

My Home Away From Home...

As many years as I've had to travel (for basketball) and do the whole packing process; i swear it gets harder every time! From experience, I've learned it's always better to over pack than under pack.. so i tend to get a little suitcase-happy and throw just about everything i own in there *side eye*

I'm finally happily settled & moved into my apartment for college (i'm a sophomore). And to even start with how long it took to unpack my 5 suitcases, 7 boxes (from storage), and various miscellaneous items, uggh.. this process took much time, patience, and gospel mixed CDs to keep me sane. Lol.. this week has been crazy. I'm an Orientation Leader for the freshmen on my campus and these youngins are giving me premature grey hairs.. smh, thank God for the stipend :)

Ever had that friend who swore up and down their life was flawless? They constantly put on this act like everything was well and they were without sin. Of course you play along and avoid calling them out for the sake of peace, but you are fully aware that them saying that is the farthest thing from the truth. "He who is without sin, be the first to cast the stone" (John 8:7) in reference to the adulteress woman.

Here's a news flash people: we are all sinners! And whether people on Earth know everything you've done to be able to cast proper judgement, just know that God sees it all! You may be perfect in the eyes of man, but God knows your heart. People don't want to hear the truth because it means you need to make adjustments and changes.. and who really wants to change up their lifestyle? The biggest reason we don't want to know the truth? Because it means acknowledging that something is wrong with us. As Christians, we are obligated to receive truth gracefully, as well as give it. Stop going to the same people for advice who will just tell you what you want to hear, rather than what you need to hear. Those are not true friends, just saying.. check your circle; it might need some tightening.. nothing a couple screws & bolts won't fix though :)

LeBron Breaks Silence About the Infamous Dunk Tape + More

Don't you just love how the NBA season is taking its sweet time to come around again? I don't think I've ever sat through more than 5 minutes of a summer sports center episode because it's all centered around baseball, golf, and hockey. Usually those 5 minutes that I do watch are because of NBA trade updates. Anywho, a lot of you guys I'm sure have heard the buzz and seen the video of LeBron gettin dunked on (which in actuality, wasn't that big of a deal)

RANDOM as HELL; but these shoes are the sh%#! Look me in my eyes and tell me to my face that you wouldn't rock the living piss outta these! (excuse my hyperboles) It was just love at first sight. This special MVP edition of his Nike Zoom LeBron VI shoes were worn against the Atlanta Hawks in Game One of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Pre-gaming never looked so good; but now to the juicy stuff..

In a recent (August 6th) interview, he tackled some of the buzzing topics circulating his name:

When asked about not shaking hands after the Game 6 loss vs. the Magic or speaking to the media (which the NBA later fined him for) he said:

"I would have [talked with] the media. Looking back on it, without you guys, there's no LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Tiger Woods or no Peyton Manning without the media. Shaking hands is not a big deal to me, it's not being a sore loser; it's moving on."

" I could see why people were talking about [walking off] because your job [the media] starts when mine ends. But as far as the dunk or whatever car I'm driving, some things you shouldn't comment on and some things you should."

When asked about his alleged confiscation of the dunk tape he said:

" I never told anyone to confiscate any tapes. Nike has a no- videotape policy at pickup games. Now that LeBron is involved, it's blown up. It's a play that happens in basketball all the time. You can go on YouTube and see me being dunked on by a lot of guys. I like to call myself a shot-blocker, and [getting dunked on] tends to happen."

Whether or not that clears anything up for you, the man has finally spoken. Being a fan regardless, I'm not gonna let a couple incidents coincide with his reputation as arguably the greatest in the league (as of now). Although your off court actions speak just as loud as your on court ones, let's just say his turnover ratio is a lil high right now.. but I see him on the rebound to a great season in no time!

My Summer '09

As the summer concludes, i thought I'd share with yall a couple of my favorite summer flicks.. this basically epitomizes the type of summer I had and what i spent a majority of my time doing - not swimming, but relaxing. This was the most laid back summer I ever had. I went from clubbing 3x a week last summer to 3x total this summer. It was hard at first, especially for me always wanting to be on the scene, but honestly I'm not looking for a man at a club, all the music they play I've probably had on my ipod for months, and hella gas gets wasted (cuz most clubs in phx downtown or far east)

While relaxing and spending quality time with family and friends instead, I also got really involved with a new church, which I'm now a proud member of (as of last week) Kingdom in the Valley off Indian School & Old Litchfield Rd (i truly recommend a visit) And it's really helped me refine my relationship with God and have the urge to live more like him. I've also been on my grind in the gym, working out 4-5 days a week: weight room, cardio, and basketball pick-up games. I am probably in the best shape I've been in for a while, I'm excited for season :-D Enough randomness, hope you all's summer is going well, try to enjoy the lil bit we have left!

I will continue to milk out all the government cheese for the meantime. You're America's superhero, and I can't lie, I don't think anyone fills out their uniform quite like you do ~~although your package looks questionable~~. For someone who's turning 48, you are aging quite gracefully, if I do say so myself. I still do believe I will get the opportunity to ~~stalk~~ meet you one day, and when I do, trust that I shall never wash my hands again ~~unless heavy-duty sh*tting occurs~~. Keep fighting for this country and restoring what used to be and still has the potential to be great. Today's sermon is a special dedication to the big egos living in EACH and every one of our heads. You can deny it all you want; but it is safe to say that everyone has felt theirself a lil too much in one way or another. Whether you made the game-winning touchdown, buzzer-beater shot, pulled 10 numbers at the club, etc. Our egos are capable of destroying the blessings God has in store for us.
We need less of us and more of him (as John 3:30 states), and to put him before ourselves. When we are given things prematurely, it messes us up because we start glorifying ourselves and think it was by our own strength that got us where we are. But as quickly as God can bless us with something, he can take it away.
Lesson: It is possible to abort phases of your destiny by trying to skip steps to get to your blessing.

Now I don't normally do this, but I had an epiphany waking up from my nap this afternoon and decided to tweet it (like i do most other things). And the RT's for it were so abundant, it made me feel like I wasn't the only one who felt this way, which is why I've decided to take it here to expound on it. The tweet was:

"Why does it feel better to prove our doubters wrong than it does to prove our supporters right?"

And since no answer was posed for this question, I will take it upon myself to answer it, in the best and most unbiased way possible. We have people that are on our side from the jump and are rooting for us, but for some reason, we have a bigger urge to please/impress/and show for the people who dont believe in us. But why?

Because we love to see that dumb-founded look our haters get when we prove them wrong and make them eat their words. There is always a greater reaction to someone who didn't believe in something than someone who already does. I just wish I would stop doing things to impress and please the people that are praying on my downfall faithfully. At the same time, the same people wishing you well, are also hoping you fail. So choose your friends wisely.

Lesson: Keep a tight circle and surround yourself with positive people that encourage success for your own satisfaction, rather than someone else's disbelief.

I love this scripture because it personifies the power & strength that words have. The Bible uses the tongue to symbolize words, and in doing so, says that life and death are at your own discretion. If you curse and slander the names of people; expect to reap the same actions done to yourself. If you bless and commend other people; you shall reap that nature as well.

Now being a HUGE fan of Ciara's ~~dancing~~ music, i tried to stay as open-minded as possible when i first heard of this ~~wig~~ hair-cut. I know, i know, some of yall are prolly thinkin, "oh not another aspiring rapper" but aspiring doesn't even begin to exemplify the justice this mixtape deserves. Besides over-exceeding my expectations, EDot delivers a hook-less album full of satirical one-liners and punches. I Plead the Sexth!

So I'm driving through the city like it's nobody's business (taking my lil bro to his b-ball game actually, but that doesn't sound as cool- lol) and i'm coming off this left turn, and you know how you accelerate off a turn? Well i kinda did that a lil too much.. 14mph too much to be exact and was right away spotted by a cop car who clocked me going 49 on a 35. What was worse, is that he was coming down the opposite direction, so like a G, straight up made a U-turn in the middle of the street and immediately proceeds to follow me. The minute i see this through my rear i'm thinkin HOLY SH*T! (and a few other choice words) My brothers game start at 9:00am and it was bout 8:50, and we were about 5 minutes from the school they played at. I look at my brother like damn, there goes your game (oops!) but i don't say it, i just think it as i remain calm so my 8yr old sibling doesn't start to freak out.
As i carry on just below the speed limit (i see the car ahead of me speed off knowing the cops were on the prowl - lucky bastard), i focus on the road and tell my brother to look through his right side mirror and let me know when/if the lights start flashing, because i was too busy keeping track of how slow i was going to worry about whether the lights would start going off. I swear i was reciting all the Bible verses I've ever been taught thinkin "Jesus take the wheel.. LITERALLY! Lol.. But not more than 15 seconds later, i get the dreadful words of my brother that his lights have began flashing.

I still remain cool, because up to this point it was pretty obvious he was after me (making a U-turn in the middle of the road?! smh c'mon now #wheredeydodatat!) To save embarrassment, i pull not on the side, but into this empty lot a lil further off viewing distance from main traffic. I park, wind down my windows, and watch as he struts to my car, chest out, armor on deck. With the most soft-spoken voice you can think of he goes "Hi ma'am! How ya doin?" I say "I'm good officer, thank you" (remembering all prior etiquette learned in Vh1's Charm School *side eye*) He goes "Well I'm stopping you for your speeding ma'am. Do you know the speed limit on this road" I go "Yes sir, i believe its 35" He goes "That's correct and I clocked you at 49. Are you in a hurry somewhere?" I say "Yes actually, I'm very sorry, I was trying to get my little brother to his game at ______ which starts at 9:00." He checks his clock (which reads 8:53ish) and says, "Oh my, that's pretty soon."
So then he tells me to put my hands up and spread em (haha, i wish tho, he was pretty cute *wink*) he asks for my license & registration and all that jazz. At that point, i'm pretty calm, i've played the pity card and expressed my situation, there's no way he's that heartless to make him late for his game and write me up for trying to get my 8 yr old brother somewhere on time. Plus i know i'm clean, have no kind of DUI record (because i've never drank) and so i'm like iite, he gon' see i'm just a regular, good ol', American citizen and let me go.

But all that changed in about 5 minutes when he returns and says the 5 words you NEVER wanna hear a police officer say to you: Please step outside the car. Innately, i start freakin the hell out, like wtf is wrong MF'er (of course i didn't say that tho). I say the only logical thing a person can say, whether innocent or guilty, "is there a problem officer?" and he goes "Well you see here, your license says you're 5'9 and a buck 60, i had to have you step out the car to see for myself, because there is NO WAY IN HELL that you're only 19 years old! I call BS on this one!" I literally had this 5,000 pound relief fall off my shoulders as i laugh and flirtatiously slap his chest *wink* He continues "Your not even 21?? That's so unbelievable! I raise the BS flag on that!"
After a couple more minutes of ~~hot & heavy kissing~~ flirting, he tells me i look good for my age and dress way more mature beyond my years.. which i did, having on a halter top, skinny jeans, hat tipped to the side, and flossed up with gold accessories from head to toe (literally; gold toe rings). So i'm thinkin in my head like dangggg, usually it's the driver that has to flirt with the cop to get out of the ticket, but hey.. works for me!
So much for dressing mature tho *side eye* But you know i do have a soft spot for them Bradley Coopers (see Tall, White, & Handsome below) and this officer was a muscle away from gettin my number, lmaooo i kid, i kid. So i ~~speed~~ drive off and somehow by the time i pull up to the school and look at the clock its 8:59 exactly! God is sooo good, not only did he get me to my brother's game on time, and out of a ticket, but he gave me eye candy for the morning, haha. I serve a loving and merciful God, i tell ya! He is sooo good!
Moral of the Story: Always dress sexy/be courteous to anybody above the law/always have a sob story on deck and ready to tell

Michael Jackson's Memorial

If there was anytime to bring closure to this tragedy, it is NOW. This couldn't have been done any better, and was by far the best tribute to have ever been done. It's dominating Twitter, the blogs, and every other network you can imagine, so I won't speak on the obvious, but rather share my own thoughts & favorite quotes of this memorial.. Singers nowadays are lucky to have a city know who they are.. MJ had the WORLD at his feet.. Dude was a musical genius.

The Jacksons looked stunning tonight. They kept their composure for the most part and look like such a close-knit family, I couldn't imagine being in their shoes and how long of a day they must've had going from a private funeral ceremony to this. God Bless them.

I know a lot of people were shocked (as was I) to see Martin Luther King III and his wife Bernice King to come up and share a few words. Although MJ brought different worlds together through music, let's not forget Martin Luther King, Sr who brought different colors together and was the real reason we have someone like Obama in office now.

As for Brooke Shields, I felt like she had the "friends with benefits" memory of MJ, as she shared moments that no one could really relate or laugh to, but nonetheless she found it hysteric. Lots of "you had to have been there" moments.

I know I wasn't the only one who caught Mariah crack on her 2nd note.. But I'm cuttin her some slack, because I know it's been awhile since she's performed, and to be on such a big stage and be honored to sing for the greatest performer of all time, the pressure can get to ya. But she redeemed herself with her rundown of every pitch on the scale on her last note. Side note: Where was Nick?

Queen Latifah brought a very laxed vibe to her speech, yet had so much swag with the ease her voice brang. Maya Angelou couldn't have picked anybody better to recite her commemoration of Michael (although I would've enjoyed seeing her read it herself). Queen Latifah is pictured as she remembered doing the robot to "Dancing Machine".

Not to sound like a Kobe-hater (because I love the guy and appreciate his raw talent, even though I prefer to have have Lebron on my team) but his speech was rather unnecessary. I found pertinence with Magic's memoir, but Kobe really had nothing to do with this. Remember the Time's music video continues to be a classic, and I remember when I first seen it and saw Magic and thought to myself "what in good hell?" lol

Pregnant and all, since when is that an excuse not to perform? I commend her for doing such a great job. She was by far my favorite performer and sang one of the all-time favorites "Will You Be There". Although a black dress would've been more fitting for this occasion (as everyone else got that memo) she still glowed, no pun intended, and blew us away. You go girl!

The most genuine Jackson out of the 5. Who said the man has lost his touch? Pssh, he still got it yall! From the interview on behalf of the family, to singing a song at his memorial, Jermaine has such a strong and pure heart and God bless him for having such strength to deal with this family loss and speak (sing) on the family's behalf on multiple occasions.

Who said only Americans were performing today? Shaheen Jafargholi stole the show with his rendition of "Who's Lovin' You" and commanded all viewers attention. This Britain's Got Talent phenomena, in the form of a 12 year old's body, is sure to take the world by storm, and there's no doubt he was indeed impacted by Michael Jackson to do what he does.

If you're like every other African-American in this country, you would've thought Al Sharpton would make a fool of himself (as he usually does) as he tries to use the power in his voice to convey a point, when words alone can do that job, regardless of the pitch of voice. However, he made me eat my words as this was by far the best speech he's ever given-- sympathetic, genuine, and compassionate. I guess this death has humbled even the most arrogant and pompous of us.

Notable mentions: Smokey Robinson's speech, Stevie Wonder's performance, John Mayer's uhhm.. "performance", Trey Lorenz's duet w/ Mariah Carey, Berry Gordon's speech, Usher's performance, and Paris breaking down at the end (although minutes earlier she was fiddling with her purse *pause*)

Vibe Magazine Folds

But that's beside the point--it's unfortunate it has to end like this, but all good things must come to an end, right? Well, we'll see what comes next, because when one door closes, another opens.

BET Awards 2009

So like every year, the BET Awards proves to be a huge disappointment, yet again.. as stated by Miss Jia best. Debra Lee (President & Chief Executive Officer of BET) stated the whole show would undergo a total overhaul to be dedicated to Michael. And it was obvious 3 days wasn't nearly enough for them. Not only were the O'Jays attributed more than Michael, but there was no real knockout (dance) performance to commemorate his greatness exuded through dance. I'm not even tryna knock Jamie and Ne-Yo's "I'll Be There" rendition at the end, because that was truly heart-felt.. but I (I, as in America) was anticipating a Chris Brown comeback performance.

Now I'm hearing through the grapevine that Jay-Z is the reason Chris Brown was taken out of the line-up of MJ tributes. Jay-Z threatened to retract not only his, but BEYONCE's performance as well if BET let Chris perform. And BET trying to do damage control knew that they couldn't afford to lose both Hov & B's performances.. Because they had already been scheduled to perform, Chris was all speculation.

All in all, Keri's performance was the best to me.. although the ending improv acapella was unecessary and somewhat damaging to the performance as a whole. She shoulda ended it when the music stopped.. just my opinion. The highlight of the night was definitely Janet (looking absolutely stunning by the way) and her thoughtful words. Prayers still going out to the Jackson family.

Michael Jackson Dies

Nobody can say they truly saw this coming.. I know I found myself internet searchin like crazy for any credible source to disprove the rumors spreading like wildfire.. But the inevitable happened, and we witnessed the King of Pop die before our eyes. I'm not gonna lie (like most people claiming to have been with him from Day 1) but I've come to learn and appreciate the great things he's done for music and you can't deny true talent when it's seen. A great part of music has died today, but i can guarantee his legacy is still alive and will continue to live on for generations to come..

And to those still finding reason to criticize the downside and allegations in his life, FXCK YOU! Seriously (i.e Perez Hilton) He was human, and so are we; let the one & only judge that matters (upstairs) handle that, and let's celebrate the GOOD he's brought to this world, bringing millions of people together, through music at that! Who else can say they truly did that in their lifetime?
